Through Official Gazette No. 220 dated Monday, November 27, 2023, the General Immigration Agency (DGME) published Resolution No. D.JUR-0633-11-2023-JM, which extends previously issued provisions regarding the deadline for the delivery of new passports requested by Costa Rican citizens before this Agency.
In June 2023, the DGME established – temporarily and until August 31, 2023 – a thirty natural days extension as the delivery deadline of the so-called "biometric passport" for those who requested it.
Now, with this new resolution, the provisions have been extended until August 31, 2024, due to the unprecedented demand for new passports and the shortage of supplies for the production of biometric technology for passports, as informed by the DGME.
Likewise, the provision regarding not to issue new passports to individuals holding a document with a validity of more than one year, except for emergency cases, remains unchanged.
