#DominicanRepublic 🇩🇴 #BDS_LaborAlert: Senate Concludes Work on New Labor Code

The special Senate committee tasked with reviewing a reform to the Labor Code concluded its work on Monday, September 29, with significant determinations that directly affect both workers and employers.

Some of the most relevant provisions retained in the proposal include:

  • The preservation of severance pay as a guaranteed worker’s right.
  • A three-month trial period, as previously established.
  • Enhanced labor safeguards aimed at strengthening legal certainty in the labor setting.

Committee chair Senator Rafael Duluc stated that this bill represents a more comprehensive version than the one debated in the previous legislative session, which was approved by the Senate but failed to advance in the House of Representatives.

According to this senator, this new bill incorporates technical adjustments requested by the business sector after the prior debate, thereby generating broader consensus. As a result, it is expected to move forward in the House of Representatives without major objections or calls for amendment.

With the committee’s work now complete, the country moves closer to enacting a labor reform designed to balance the interests of employers and workers, safeguard vested rights, and respond to the demands of various economic sectors.
