#Nicaragua 🇳🇮 #BDS_Informs: National Holidays on September 14 and 15, 2025

In Nicaragua, September 14 commemorates the heroic Battle of San Jacinto, while September 15 marks the celebration of the Independence of Central America. Both dates have been declared mandatory national holidays, with rest and payment entitlements, as established by Article 66 of the Nicaraguan Labor Code (Law No. 185).

According to the official statement issued by the Minister of Labor, Johana Vanessa Flores Jiménez, the following has been decreed:

  1. Paid leave for public sector workers, to be deducted from vacation days, beginning at the end of the workday on Friday, September 12, 2025. Employees must return to their regular duties on Monday, September 22, 2025.
  2. As Sunday, September 14, coincides with the seventh day of weekly rest, pursuant to Article 68 of the Labor Code, this holiday will be compensated with Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Also, any employee required to work on that date must be compensated with one additional day of overtime.

Pursuant to Article 69 of the Labor Code, national holidays may be subject to overtime work only under the following conditions:

  1. Activities that cannot be interrupted due to the nature of the essential needs they meet; those required for technical reasons; pharmacy shifts; recreational establishments; and activities whose interruption would cause harm to public interest, industry, or commerce.
  2. Tasks intended to repair damage caused by force majeure or unforeseen events, provided that such repairs cannot be postponed.
  3. Works which, by their nature, can only be carried out at specific times or under circumstances dependent on irregular natural phenomena.
  4. Labor, industries, or businesses that are indispensable for meeting daily and essential food supply needs.
