On the upcoming July 25, our country will commemorate one of the most significant milestones in its history: the Annexation of Nicoya.
This date is a mandatory paid public holiday, in accordance with Article 148 of the Labor Code.
Wage provisions
- Companies with a weekly payroll schedule (non-commercial activities): must pay wages for the days worked during that week and add a regular day's wage for the holiday. If the employee works on the holiday, they must be paid double rate.
- Companies with monthly, biweekly, or weekly payroll in commercial activities: wages already include paid holidays, so if the employee works on July 25, they must be paid an additional regular day's wage to comply with the double pay legal requirement.
- Overtime: must be paid at a 50% surcharge over the employee’s regular hourly wage, e., triple pay.
Unlike in some recent years, in 2025 the holiday will not be moved to the preceding or following Monday. It must be observed on Friday, July 25.
