#DominicanRepublic 🇩🇴 #BDS_Informs: Ministry of Labor Recommends Flexible Work Arrangements and Prioritizing Telework Amid Rainfall Alert

In light of the forecast of heavy rainfall and the increased risk of flooding, the Ministry of Labor issued a recommendation to employers to adopt preventive measures aimed at safeguarding employee safety, including flexible work hours and the implementation of telework where possible.

This recommendation applies to 28 provinces across the country—26 of which are under yellow alert and two under green alert—according to the most recent bulletin issued by the Emergency Operations Center (COE).

This measure is a response to adverse weather conditions affecting much of the national territory, including forecasts of intense rainfall, rising river levels, urban flooding, and landslides. Provinces under yellow alert include the National District, Santo Domingo, Santiago, La Vega, Puerto Plata, San Cristóbal, San Pedro de Macorís, La Altagracia, Duarte, and Monte Plata. Meanwhile, San Juan and Dajabón remain under green alert.

In this context, the labor authority urged companies to adjust their operations through remote work and flexible schedules to reduce employee exposure to weather-related risks.

Furthermore, employers were advised to treat absences or late arrivals as justified when they are directly caused by the rainfall.

These measures are intended to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of employees, encouraging organizations to adapt responsibly to emergency scenarios by prioritizing human well-being without compromising business continuity.
