All medical leave certificates issued during medical consultations and emergency care must now be issued directly in the patient’s electronic medical record. This document will include a unique code and a QR code containing the relevant information.
Medical leaves exceeding three days must include a medical certificate, which must be duly entered into the electronic record. Likewise, any medical leave extensions must be properly substantiated. For medical leaves of 15 days or more, digital validation by the director of the corresponding healthcare center will be required.
Under this new system, employees will receive their medical leave certificates via email or SMS. Therefore, the ISSS encourages insured individuals to keep their contact details up to date. Employers will also receive a copy of the electronic medical leave certificates, allowing for more timely and efficient access to the documentation.
When a medical leave certificate entitles the employee to be paid a subsidy, the worker must register on the website portal.isss.gob.sv to review and process the subsidy online. Employers will also be able to access the information through the same platform and report the corresponding medical leave.
BDS Asesores recommends that companies review and update their employees’ information with the ISSS and adjust their internal medical leave management processes to ensure timely compliance with this new procedure.
