To address salary gaps identified in the Secondary Education Technician (TMED) category, the National Salary Council (CNS) approved specific minimum wage adjustments through Resolution RG-MTSS-CNS-1-2025.
As an initial effect of this resolution, the minimum wage for this category was set at ₡484,568.18 per month, an increase that was required to be applied in a single installment as of July 1, 2025.
Additionally, the resolution established a specific annual increase of 0.88768%, in addition to the general minimum wage adjustment, which must be applied progressively over a five-year period. This implies a new mandatory increase as of January 1, 2026, in accordance with the schedule approved by the CNS.
As previously reported, this 0.88768% adjustment is additional to the general increase of 1.63%, which must take effect as of January of this year.
It is essential for employers to consider their obligation to review and verify the correct application of the minimum wage corresponding to this occupational category, both with respect to the initial adjustment applied in July 2025 and the subsequent staggered increases that must be implemented from 2026 through 2030.
The resolution establishing the July adjustment and the staggered increases was published in Official Gazette La Gaceta No. 115 of June 24, 2025, while the additional increase effective January 2026 was established through Decree No. 45303-MTSS, published in Item No. 156 of Official Gazette No. 229 dated December 5, 2025.
