#Nicaragua 🇳🇮 #BDS_ImmigrationAlert: New Procedure for Passport Applications

The General Office of Immigration and Foreigner Affairs (DGME) announced on March 4, 2026, the implementation of mechanisms for Nicaraguan citizens to apply for passports—whether for first-time issuance, renewal, or replacement due to loss. These services are now available both in person and through a dedicated digital platform.

According to official reports, citizens may submit their applications at Nicaraguan consulates abroad or via the online platform at: tramitesconsulares.mint.gob.ni.

The digital process consists of the following general steps:

  • Creation of a user account and password on the platform.
  • Registration of the applicant and e-mail-based verification.
  • Entry of personal information and application details.
  • Upload of required documents, such as birth certificate, Nicaraguan national ID card, and photograph.
  • Review of the application by the migration authority.

During the process, the applicant will be able to track the status of the application through the system and via notifications sent to their email, which will display the different procedure stages (created, published, approved, or pending correction).

Once the application has been reviewed and the requirements have been met, the system will send the user a link to make the corresponding payment for the passport application, which amounts to US$50.00 payable by credit or debit card through the enabled payment platform.

Finally, once payment has been confirmed, the General Office of Immigration and Foreigner Affairs will process the document and forward the passport to the consular offices abroad, as applicable.
