#CostaRica 🇨🇷 #BDS_LaborAlert: 6.62% Salary Increase For The Private Sector

The National Wages Council approved a general 6.62% increase for all salary categories in the private sector. An additional 2.33962% has been approved for domestic service workers.

Said salary increase applies only to minimum wages, and was published via Decree No. 43849-MTSS in Costa Rica's Official Gazette on Friday December 23. The increase will be effective from January 1st, 2023.

In addition, the Executive Decree that sets the minimum wages accepted the resolution adopted by the National Wages Council in terms of eliminating the differentiated minimum wage for labor activities considered dangerous or unhealthy, which had a minimum hourly wage equivalent to one sixth of the daily salary for the unskilled category. Based on this, minimum wages will be applied according to the relevant category of the position in question, regardless of whether these are dangerous or unhealthy jobs. However, employers may not affect the vested rights of workers who have been enjoying this differentiated minimum wage.
