#ElSalvador 🇸🇻 #BDS_LaborAlert: Update on the Salvadoran Fire Department Law

The Committee on Legislation and Constitutional Matters has issued a favorable opinion to reform the Salvadoran Fire Department Act. The primary objective of this regulatory update is to govern the working hours of the relief personnel within the institution.

The proposed reform establishes 24-hour work shifts for firefighters, with corresponding breaks for meals; moreover, a 72-hour rest period between each shift is considered. This measure is aimed at ensuring the health and well-being of this valuable personnel, as well as enhancing efficiency in responding to emergencies.

The amendment will consist of adding a second paragraph to Article 25 of the Law, clearly specifying the roles of operational staff in relation to the nature of the institution's functions.

It should be noted that essential public services provided by the Fire Department often require uninterrupted 48-hour shifts, followed by five days of rest between work periods.

With this update, the goal is to ensure that the response to various emergencies and the protection of people's lives occur in a continuous and effective manner.
