On Wednesday, February 26, President Luis Abinader, alongside Minister of Labor Eddy Olivares, announced a new 20% increase in the minimum wage, confirming the percentage previously stated a few weeks ago. The increase will be applied in two stages.
Accordingly, as of April 2025 and February 2026, the new wage amounts for the non-sectorized private sector will take effect as part of a gradual adjustment, for purposes of aligning with the previous minimum wage resolution, which also implemented the full increase in two installments.
It must be reminded that, according to the applicable resolution, in the Dominican Republic companies are classified as follows:
- Large companies: + 151 employees or sales > DOP 202 million
- Medium-sized companies: 51-150 employees or sales between DOP 54 million and DOP 202 million
- Small companies: 11-50 employees or sales between DOP 8 million and DOP 54 million
- Microenterprises: Up to 10 employees or sales < DOP 8 million
Based on this classification, the minimum wage as of April 2025 must be applied as follows:
- Large companies: DOP 27,988.80
- Medium-sized companies: DOP 25,656.96
- Small companies: DOP 17,193.12
- Microenterprises: DOP 15,860.32
As of February 2026, the minimum wage will be as follows:
- Large companies: DOP 29,988.00
- Medium-sized companies: DOP 27,489.60
- Small companies: DOP 18,421.20
- Microenterprises: DOP 16,993.20
Additionally, the minimum wage for private security guards will be:
- From April 2025: DOP 22,990.80
- From February 2026: DOP 24,633.00
The minimum wage for agricultural workers will be:
- From April 2025: DOP 666.40 per day
- From February 2026: DOP 714.00 per day
This recent wage increase results from negotiations between workers, employers, and the government. Companies must now assess the impact of these adjustments on their projected salary budgets for 2025.
