#DominicanRepublic 🇩🇴  #BDS_Informs: Congress Reactivates Debate on Social Security Reform

The House of Representatives has established a bicameral commission to analyze the proposed social security reform, a process that had been stalled for three years due to various disagreements.

On behalf of the House of Representatives, congressman Rafael Castillo of the Fuerza del Pueblo party will lead the commission, which will include members of the Permanent Commission on Social Security. The Senate is expected to appoint its representatives in the upcoming session to complete the team and formally commence the review of the bill.

The current Social Security Law, enacted in 2001 and based on the Chilean model, has been the subject of extensive criticism and multiple reform bills. In 2021, the Congress attempted to amend the law, but those efforts ultimately failed.

We will continue to share updates on the progress of this initiative.
