The Pan American Day holiday is approaching, making it essential for organizations to correctly manage its implementation—particularly regarding holidays that are moved to different dates, which require operational adjustments and workforce planning.

In this context, the Honduran Council of Private Enterprise (COHEP in Spanish) has confirmed that the April 14 holiday (Pan American Day) will be observed on Monday, April 20, in accordance with Decree No. 50-2003, which regulates the rescheduling of public holidays that fall during the workweek.

This provision allows such holidays to be moved to the following Monday to encourage long weekends. However, the legislation establishes exceptions for specific dates that must be observed on their actual day, such as January 1, May 1, September 15, and December 25.

From a labor perspective, companies must properly manage this change, as the mandatory day of rest must be granted on Monday, April 20. Consequently, organizations should adjust their operational planning and ensure that employees are able to enjoy the holiday in accordance with applicable regulations.

In cases where the nature of the business requires services to be provided during the rescheduled holiday, the employer must apply the appropriate compensation rules, ensuring the additional pay required under labor legislation.

Additionally, it should be noted that these provisions apply primarily to the private sector, while their implementation in the public sector may vary depending on the guidelines issued by the competent authorities.

Proper management of this type of holiday not only ensures legal compliance, but also helps prevent labor contingencies and strengthens internal planning within organizations, particularly during periods that typically require adjustments in operations and workforce availability.
