In light of the upcoming Holy Week and recent inquiries regarding statutory holidays, the Honduran Council of Private Enterprise (COHEP) reminds the business community and the general public of the provisions established in the Labor Code and applicable decrees for 2026.

In accordance with Article 339 of the Labor Code, the mandatory paid holidays during Holy Week will be Thursday, April 2; Friday, April 3; and Saturday, April 4, 2026.

COHEP also reiterates the provisions of Article 340 of the same Code, which establishes that if an employee agrees with the employer to work on those holidays, the employer must compensate the work performed at double the ordinary wage, in proportion to the time worked.

As for Tuesday, April 14, declared a national holiday, the business association recalls that, pursuant to Article 339 and Article 1 of Decree No. 50-2003: “National holidays that fall on working days shall be observed on the Monday of the following week, except for January 1, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday, May 1, September 15 and December 25, which shall be observed on the same day they occur.” Therefore, given that April 14, 2026 falls on a Tuesday, the mandatory day of rest will be observed on Monday, April 20.

COHEP advises employers to comply with these legal provisions and encourages employees to remain informed about their rights and obligations during this period.
