#Nicaragua 🇳🇮 #BDS_LaborAlert: 2026 Minimum Wage Adjustment

On March 5, 2026, the National Minimum Wage Commission—comprising labor unions, the business sector, and the Ministry of Labor (MITRAB) authorities—approved a minimum wage adjustment for 2026.

This agreement mandates a general 4% increase for most economic sectors. Notably, the free zone sector will receive a 6.7% adjustment, in accordance with previously established agreements for that regime.

The new monthly minimum wages are as follows:

• Agriculture and Livestock: C$ 6,188.02
• Fishing: C$ 9,409.09
• Mining and Quarrying: C$ 11,113.46
• Manufacturing Industry: C$ 8,320.38
• Industry Subject to Special Regime: C$ 9,986.46
• Micro and Small National Artisanal and Tourism Industry: C$ 6,519.00
• Electricity, Gas and Water; Commerce; Restaurants and Hotels; Transport, Storage and Communications: C$ 11,350.08
• Construction; Financial and Insurance Establishments: C$ 13,848.23
• Community, Personal and Social Services: C$ 8,674.94
• Central and Municipal Government: C$ 7,716.70

The adjustment is retroactive to March 1, 2026, and will remain in effect until February 28, 2027.

Accordingly, employers are advised to verify that the wages paid to employees comply with the new minimum amounts established for each economic sector, in order to avoid potential labor contingencies arising from non-compliance with wage regulations.
