Costa Rica will celebrate the **203rd anniversary of its Independence** this coming **Sunday, September 15**, a significant date for our country and Central America.

Due to its importance, this holiday is classified as a **mandatory paid day off** according to Costa Rican labor law.

This means that employees are entitled to a **paid day of rest**, allowing them to observe this **national celebration** throughout the country.

**Will the holiday be observed on a different day this year?**

**No.** This year, the **holiday remains on its original date,** and thus, must be observed on **Sunday, September 15.**

**Proper compensation for the holiday**

According to [Article 148](https://tools.bdsasesores.com/legislacion-laboral/titulo-tercero-de-las-jornadas-de-los-descansos-y-de-los-salarios/) of the Labor Code, Independence Day is a **mandatory paid holiday** for all employees required to work on this day.
