In light of their cultural and religious significance, Article 67 of the Labor Code (Act No. 185), along with the official announcement issued by the Minister of Labor, Alba Luz Torres Briones, designates **Friday, August 1, and Sunday, August 10, 2025**, as **paid leave days** in the city of Managua. This means these dates are mandatory days off with full pay. Should employers located within the municipality of Managua require employees to work their regular shifts on these dates, the hours worked must be paid as **overtime**, that is, **at double the regular hourly rate.** With regard to **Sunday, August 10, 2025,** although for some workers this day constitutes the seventh day of their workweek, being a local holiday rather than a national public holiday, it is **not subject to compensatory time off on another date.** The right to compensatory time off **only applies to national public holidays**, pursuant to current labor regulations. It is also worth noting that overtime work is **not mandatory**, except in cases involving activities that cannot be suspended or that are essential to food supply, as established in **Article 69 of the Labor Code.** This paid leave applies **exclusively to businesses located within the municipality of Managua.** In all other municipalities of the country, work will proceed as usual, as each location celebrates its own patron saint festivities on **different dates**, previously announced by their relevant local authorities through the corresponding official proclamations.
