May 30 is a national holiday, as declared by the National Assembly of the Republic of Nicaragua, recognizing it as Mother's Day in accordance with Act No. 1118 that contains the Law declaring Mother's Day a national holiday, approved on May 18, 2022, and published in the Official Gazette No. 92 on May 20, 2022. This law amends Article 66 of the Labor Code of Nicaragua, entitling workers to mandatory paid leave.
Some of the key aspects to consider regarding this national holiday include the following:
It should be reminded that this holiday aims to honor dignified, dedicated, hardworking, entrepreneurial, and educating mothers responsible for developing women and men that strive daily to create a prosperous and harmonious Nicaragua.
Additionally, it should be noted that the President of the Republic of Nicaragua, Commander Daniel Ortega Saavedra, has decreed a leave accounted for as vacation time for Government employees on Friday, May 31, 2024, to celebrate "Nicaraguan Mother's Day" with their families and communities, resuming regular work on Monday, June 3, 2024. This was announced in a statement by the Minister of Labor, Alba Luz Torres Briones, on May 27, 2024, in accordance with the second paragraph of Article 66 of the Labor Code.
This leave is mandatory for Government employees. Private companies must adhere to customs or agreements between the parties.
