#DominicanRepublic 🇩🇴 #BDS_LaborAlert: Ministry of Labor Suspends Work Activities Due to Tropical Storm Melissa

The Government has announced the suspension of all public and private work activities starting at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22 through Thursday, October 23, 2025. This preventive measure is intended to mitigate the potential impact of Tropical Storm Melissa, which continues to approach national territory.

According to the Emergency Operations Center (COE in Spanish), the suspension will apply exclusively to provinces currently under red alert:

  • Greater Santo Domingo
  • San Cristóbal
  • Peravia
  • Azua
  • Barahona
  • Pedernales
  • San José de Ocoa
  • San Juan de la Maguana

In these areas, authorities have ordered the temporary suspension of work activities to protect the population and prevent potential harm resulting from adverse weather conditions.

The Ministry of Labor emphasized that the decision aims to ensure the safety of workers and the general public, in light of the heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts forecasted across various regions of the country.

The suspension does not apply to companies and businesses providing essential or critical services, which may continue operating with minimum staff to guarantee the continuity of basic services for the population.
