#DominicanRepublic 🇩🇴 #BDS_Informs: Labor Flexibility Recommended Due to Weather Conditions

On April 8, the Ministry of Labor issued a statement urging employers to implement flexible working arrangements and adopt teleworking for staff in vulnerable areas. This recommendation follows the latest advisories on adverse weather conditions provided by the Emergency Operations Center (COE in Spanish).

The recommended measures aim to safeguard employee safety and ensure safe commuting conditions, while maintaining business continuity whenever possible. It was also emphasized that the adoption of such measures must not result in any reduction of employees’ rights, benefits, or statutory labor entitlements.

These measures should remain effective for as long as adverse weather conditions persist, making it essential to continuously monitor official updates issued by the competent authorities in the Dominican Republic.

Strategic Recommendations for Employers

From a labor compliance and preventive standpoint, we recommend that organizations adopt these measures:

  • Document all measures adopted by the company.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources and operations teams to ensure consistent implementation of the measures.
  • Maintain clear communication with employees, ensuring decision traceability.
  • Continuously oversee communications issued by the Ministry of Labor and the COE, in order to timely adjust internal protocols as new information becomes available.

By taking a preventive approach, companies can mitigate labor risks while prioritizing the well-being of their workforce during the current weather events.
