Communication No. DG-02-01-2023 was published in the Official Gazette on Wednesday January 18, 2023, in which the General Immigration Authority (DGME) reports about the elimination of the stamp for migratory movements for Costa Rican citizens or residents travelling by air and sea.

As a result of this provision, from Monday January 16, 2023:

  • The stamp used during the migratory entry checkpoint for all travel documents of national and foreign citizens who have a regular immigration category within the national territory, will be eliminated.
  • The procedure for foreign citizens willing to enter the country under a NON-resident immigration category remains the same, which is why in these cases, the relevant stamp will be applied and the approved stay period must be included.
  • The migratory exit procedure remains unchanged to date.
These changes will not apply during migratory entry procedures through land and inland water transportation.

It should be noted that the DGME will make available a secure, reliable, and accessible database for users through the institution’s website, allowing for the consultation of migratory records and movements from anywhere in the world (entry and exit movements to and from the country); this may be performed by submitting a migratory movement consultation request or a certification, where required.
